The Beginning

IT started with the ocean

Whenever my mom and I are together, one of our favorite things to do is take a walk along the beach. During one of those walks, I brought up an idea I’d been toying with: creating my own swimwear.

I grew up on the water, so I’ve spent plenty of time in swimsuits. Finding one that fit how I wanted was another story. I’d always wanted to build my own business, and I started wondering if I could create what I couldn’t find. Swimsuits that fit better, made with recycled plastic.

My mom’s response? “So why not do it?” So I did.

Then I bought a bracelet. And immediately took it apart.

As Siren grew, people wanted a way to support the brand even if they weren’t shopping for a swimsuit.

My mom and I bought glass bead bracelets, and I became obsessed. Within an hour, I’d purposely broken mine apart to figure out how it was made. Back at our hotel, I tracked down everything I’d need to make them myself. My family headed to dinner, and I promised I’d meet them once I’d seen my idea through. ADHD hyperfocus, anyone?

I designed the first six sea animal bracelets and ordered all the beads and supplies to be delivered
home, even though I wouldn’t be back for another two months.

My mom thought I was crazy. Which, honestly, is fair. But this particular idea worked out.

And then came the book bracelets.

I love reading, so eventually that obsession found its way into the beads.

The book bracelets started with a design I made for my best friend, Sarah Baus, to gift the travelers on her fantasy inspired trip.

She shared it, people started asking where they could buy one, and then
came requests for bracelets inspired by more of their favorite books.

What started as one design grew into a collection, with colors and patterns inspired by the stories,
characters, and little details that stay with us long after the final page.

The Bookshelf Collection

A little ocean. A little fantasy. A lot of beads.

Today, Siren brings together my love of the ocean, books, art, and design, and gives me a place to put all that creative energy.

What started with swimwear has grown into something I didn’t originally plan. But considering the
bracelet business began with me destroying a vacation purchase, I think we’ve established that the
plan is subject to change.
